CO Returns To Work After Being Reinstated
Concealed relationship with offender. Other employees cry foul

It has been reported to Texas Justice Dot Org that a Garza East correctional officer has been reinstated to her job after concealing her relationship with an incarcerated offender. Concerned that she would be fired for telling authorities of her relationship with the offender, the officer instead, concealed the relationship. The officer, who will remain unnamed, had visited the offender at the Glossbrenner unit where he is housed. The relationship was discovered and the officer was fired for her actions. During mediation last week, she was given back her job by Region IV Director, Robert Treon. It was reported that she did receive some suspension and put on disciplinary probation.

It was reported that the offender and officer lived together before he was convicted of one or more DWI's. Once incarcerated, TDCJ policy required her to report the relationship to TDCJ officials. She did not do so.

After being reinstated to her job and unit, many employees have been critical of the way Mr. Treon handled this situation. With a lawsuit having just been filed by a former employee forced to resign for notifying TDCJ of her relationship with the family of an offender, many employees are angered and perplexed at this latest development. It is known that some unit administrators are angered as well. Treon also handled the mediation in the former case.
